Regarding risks of injuries on fast craft, the EU Commission and Parliament have issued a new directive on Shock and Vibration.
The directive limits the allowable shock and vibration exposure onboard.
It was published in June 2002 and gave a 3 year period for operators to comply fully.
It states the employers’ responsibility not to expose employees to impacts and vibrations above certain limits values.
These limits are such that they are easily surpassed at normal sea operations.
When there is a risk for exposure above the limits, the employers are compelled to provide the best available technology and routines to reduce the exposure.
